Bergevin gambled, and now the house is folding

Tonight the Montreal Canadians are playing against P.K. Subban and the Predators in Nashville. The two teams are complete opposites of each other. Montreal has 18 points, and is 6th in their division. Nashville has 26 points and are 2nd in their division. I can't help but go back the blockbuster trade that occuring almost 18 months ago. Weber for Subban.

It was the trade that officially pulled me off the Habs bandwagon. I had never been a fan of Montreal, until P.K.Subban showed up. His high energy/competitive level brought new life to Montreal. Price and him gave the team an amazing 1-2 punch! So when he was traded, it tore my Habs heart in half. I knew when the trade was made, that Nashville would come out the winner. Their was arguments made that Bergevin made a trade to "win now". That's totally BS to me. Are you saying you were not going to win with Subban??? Seriously I don't think that was the problem. It was more that their was a division within the locker room. You had Pacioretty's alliance, and Subban didn't fit in with that. Also, in today's Montreal Canadian's team, you can't have identity. You can't be creative. You have to shut-up, get the job done, and be a emotionless/soul-less entity. Sorry to be blunt, but that is totally how it is. Even the most die-hard Habs fan can see it.

So let's look at the numbers of Subban and Weber, since they were trade.

Here are Subban's numbers with Nashville.

GP 86

G 14

A 42

Pts 56

PPG 4

Here are Weber's numbers with Montreal.

GP 98

G 21

A 34

Pts 55

PPG 14

Those are pretty similar stats, with Weber having more powerplay goals. However, Weber has not led his team to the promise land, as Bergevin said he would be. There is already rumours that Weber will be traded. I am not dispecting Shea Weber, as he is still a talented player. However, he is not going to help the Habs "win", and that makes this trade a total bust. Add that fact that Weber lost his good friend Radulov during the off-season, and you can't help but think that he wants to jump ship. That is another move that I scratch my head at. IF Montreal wanted to have Radulov re-sign, they would have done it. No question about it. Bergevin could have made it happen, but his ego got in the way.

That is what the Montreal Canadians have become. An egotistical, emotionless, narcissistic hockey organization. As a fan of hockey, I can get behind a team like this. Bergevin has gambled bigtime, and the house is about to collect.
