We are over 20 games into the 2017-18 season, and I figured it would be a good time to look at some of the top players/performance so far this season. Today I will be talking about the top 5 Rookies from the 2017-18. There might not be any Auston Matthews or Connor McDavid's on this list, but there are still some talented players.
#5)
Charlie Lindgren (Goaltender) Montreal Canadiens
GP:7
Record: 3-3-1
GAA: 2.49
SV%.923
SO:1
Lindgren has looked really solid in replacing the "injured" Carey Price. He might be struggling the past few games, but he still has put up some impressive stats. Of course, once Price is back, his game time will diminish, but he gives the Habs a decent alternative, and a possible trade bait for another team
#4)
Matthew Barzal (Center) New York Islanders
GP: 20
G: 4
A: 15
Pts: 19
It's looks like that extra year in juniors helped Barzal immensely! He is currently centering the Isles 2nd line. He has found chemistry with Jordan Eberle, and has given the Islanders much needed depth.
Nico Hischier (Center) New Jersey Devils
GP: 20
G: 3
A: 12
Pts: 15
The 2017 1st Round pick has had an immediate impact on his team. He is on the Devils top line, and is playing along side Taylor Hall. Hischier has struggled of late, but you can still see that this kid is going to be a star for many years to come.
Brock Boeser (Right Wing) Vancouver Canucks
GP: 17
G: 7
A: 10
Pts: 17
GWG:2
Brock is a beast! What a great name as well! The epicness of his name, matches his talent and skill. He has taken a few years to develop, but Brock is now ready to take over the reigns in Vancouver. There is no one on that team, that can match his talent. He already has two game winning goals. Sky is the limit for the stud!
Clayton Keller (Center) Arizona Coyotes
GP: 22
G: 11
A:7
Pts; 18
Keller is the only brightspot in a rather disasterous season for the Coyotes. Keller has looked like the second coming of Patrick Kane. He is a true sniper, and future star. At this point, he is the clearcut winner of the Calder Trophy. Don't be surprised to see a 30 goal season from him this year. He is that good.
There are just a few of the many solid rookies this season. I was worried how rookie would perform this year. As the rookie crop was not as strong as the past few years. However, it pleasantly suprising to see soo many young players, stepping up and delivering. He is a list of the current leaders in rookie scoring:
