The Toronto Maple Leafs handed the Los Angeles Kings their first regulation loss of the year with a 3-2 victory last night. Toronto has now won 7 of their first 9 games, and lead the league with 40 goals. They already have 11 PPG and have a PP% of 28.9. Also they have four players who have 4 or more goals. Very impressive!!! These are not the same Leafs that many fans grew up with.
Now not everything is perfect. Toronto have given up an average of over 3 goals a game. They produce alot of shots (308) but give up just as many. (293) Nevertheless, you can't help but enjoy a team like this. I am by no means a Leafs fan, but you have to respect how the organization has turned itself around. Bringing in coach Mike Babcock, and GM Brendan Shanahan, instantly gave credibility to one of the laughing stocks of the NHL. There is a great article on just how much of an impact Babcock has brought the the Leafs. (Click here to view the link)
One thing about Toronto is that management is investing in the team.Bringing Patrick Marleau over during the offseason, shows just how much this team wants to succeed. Montreal, and other fans have mocked Toronto for the past years. However Toronto has turned over a new Leaf, and the rest of league should take notice.
In the only other game last night, the San Jose Sharks handed the New York Rangers their 6th loss of the season, in a 4-1 victory. Trouble is brewing in New York, and "King" Lundqvist looks like he is about to be dethroned...
Check back tomorrow for another hockey fun filled post!!
