Welcome to a new post that will spotlighting the leagues best/worst scoring teams. This could become a weekly post, so stay tuned! For now, let's get right to it.
Let's start by spotlighting the current three best GPG (goals per game) teams in the league.
1) Toronto Maple Leafs:
GP 5
G 26
GPG:5.2
Comments: What an offensive start by the Leafs! Auston Matthews has 5 goals, James Van Riemsdyk has 4 and new arrival Marleau has 3 goals. 13 Leafs players have scored goals already for the team, and we are only 5 games in!
2) Chicago Blackhawks
GP 6
G 24
GPG: 4.1
Comments: Brandon Saad leads the Hawks with 6 goals. Toews and Panik have 3, and Patrick Kane and four others have 2 goals. Like the Leafs, the Hawks have a very balanced attack, that can score at will.
3) New Jersey Devils
GP 5
G 21
GPG: 4.2
Comments: The Devils are this weeks surprise entry. Yes, the Devils are scoring alot of goals, and they are getting goals from many different players. 5 players have 2 or more goals, which is phenomimal for a team that was consired "enimic".
***Now let's have a look at the threee worst scoring teams in the league***
1) Montreal Canadians
GP 5
G 8
GPG:1.6
Comments: We all know that the loss of Radulov would effect Montreal, but this is ridiculous!! Drouin can't do it all. The team has blacklisted Galchenyuk for some reason, and their blueline is awful. It is going to be a long year for the Habs.
2) San Jose Sharks
GP 4
G 8
GPG: 2
Comments: Now here is a suprise!!! I didn't think the Sharks would start off this slow. Could the loss of Marleau affect them that much???
3) Edmonton Oilers
GP 4
G 8
GPG: 2
Comments: Another deceiving team. You would think the Oilers and their high offense would be able to produce, but nope. (not yet at least) McDavid does have 3 goals, so he is doing his part. Instead it is the supporting cast having issues. Ryan Strome, who came over to the Oilers in the trade for Jordan Eberle has laid goose eggs. No points in 4 games, and a -2. Yikes!!! Too early to tell, but this could be a really bad trade for the Oilers.
So there you have it. Some teams are on fire, while some are stuck in the deep freeze. There is alot to be excited about. Scoring is up! Way up!! Through 79 games, there is currently an average of 3.08 GPG. That is the highest average since 2005-06. Loving it!!! Keep the goals coming. Check back next week to see why team have progressed, and which ones have regressed.
