Under 23 Team Spotlight: Boston Bruins

Welcome to a new Spotlight blog where I will be looking at players for each team, that are under 23. Why 23? Well last August the World Cup had a team comprised of "Young Stars" who were 23 or younger. A team that surprised at the tournament, and represented the future of the league. That is where I got my inspiration to do this list. Within this spotlight, I will look at teams, with players that are 23 or under. I will give ranking, opinion, and an overall team grade. Today we look at the Boston Bruins.

***Left Wing***

1) Peter Cehlarik, age 21

-Some potential to be a 3rd line forward, and he has already played 11 games this season. Could be given more opportunities next year.

2) Jake Debrusk. age 20

-The 14th overall pick in the 2015 draft is in his first AHL season with Providence. He has looked pretty sharp to date, and should make the transition to the NHL next season. Possible top 6 forward

Other notables: Jesse Gabrielle age 19 , Anders Bjork age 20. Joona Koppanen age 19

***Center***

1) Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson Age 20

-Smooth skating forward, who is very talented, and could become a solid playmaker. Currently in the H-EAST university league. Should get a serious chance to crack the NHL roster next season.

2) Trent Frederic age 19

-Still a few years away from making the NHL, but he shown that he could be worth the wait. Very similar still to David Backes. A future stalwart on the Bruins team.

3) Danton Heinen, age 21

-Definitely has some scoring potential, but it is his two-way game that is grabbing peoples attention. Played 8 games with the Bruins this season, and has had a stellar season with Providence. Could be a full time NHLer next year.

4) Colby Cave, age 22

- Cool name, but currently buried in the AHL. Still uncertain of where his place will be within the organization

Other Notables: Ryan Donato age 20, Cameron Hughes age 20, Jack Becker age 19

***Right Wing***

1) David Pastrnak age 20

-On pace for a 30 goals season with the Bruins. A true NHL sniper, who at age 20 has already become one of the elite players in the NHL. A superstar stud, in full bloom.

2) Zachary Senyshyn age 19

-Quick acceleration, and nifty mittens. A scoring stud, who has a strong CHL career, and should be primed to crack the B's lineup next season. A top tier prospect

3) Frank Vatrano age 23

-Local Boston kid, who is quickly becoming a fan favorite. An agitator who has some scoring talent. Good skater, with a lethal shot.

4) Anton Blidh age 22

-Looked out of place in his 19 game stint with the Bruins. On the bubble right now.

Other notables: Justin Hickman age 22

***Defense***

1) Brandon Carlo age 20

-Quickly becoming a staple on the Bruins blueline. With an ATOI of 21:06 it shows how much faith the coach has in him. Very underrated player.

2) Jakub Zboril age 20

-Solid two-way blueliner who has great speed and mobility. Bruins are expecting great things from him, and he should be a contender to make the roster next season. Dan Hamhuis version 2.0

3) Jeremy Lauzon age 19

-Known as a gritty defenseman, he possesses strong skating skills and his mobility with the puck transitioning is one of his defining attributes. Serious candidate to make the team next season.

Other notables: Matthew Grzelcyk age 23 , Rob O"Gara age 23, Ryan Lindgren age 19, Emil Johansson age 20

***Goalies***

1) Malcolm Subban age 23

-A once surefire prospect, is fading quickly. He just doesn't seem to have the confidence or consistency to be a solid goaltender. Still potential, but patience is wearing thin.

2) Daniel Vadar age 19

-Slowly creeping up the depths chart. A project player, with a huge frame. Could surpass Subban in the depth charts.

Team Ranking:

- The Bruins have a decent core of young forwards, with Pastrnak leading the way. They have some solid young blueliners as well. They are weak in goaltending, so that is a bit of a concern. All in all a good team, with some decent prospects.
