Another NHL trade deadline has come and gone, and as has been the case for the past few years, there were no real big trades. This event has been come more of a hype than anything elso, sp expectation were already low for me, going into this week.
Still I thought I would through a team-by-team analysis of the trades teams made during the deadline week. So, let's see how things went.
Anaheim Ducks:
Added: Patrick Eaves (Dallas)
Lost: 2017 conditional second-round pick
- The Ducks got a 20 goal score, for a conditional pick. Sounds like a very good deal to me! He can play on either the second or third line, and will have an immediate impact on the team. One of the best deals of the deadline
Arizona Coyotes:
Added: 2017 first-round pick; 2018 second-round pick; 2019 conditional pick; C Grayson Downing (Minnesota)
Lost: C Martin Hanzal; RW Ryan White; 2017 fourth-round pick
- The Yotes where obviously sellers, and they got alot in return for Hanzal. A good deal in my m ind
Boston Bruins:
Added: RW Drew Stafford (Winnipeg)
Lost: 2017 conditional sixth-round pick
-Stafford has had an injury riddled year, but he is a solid 3rd line forward. The Bruins didn't lose anything substantial. So it was a great move on their part.
Buffalo Sabres:
**No trades***
-Very surprised to see that Buffalo didn't make any moves. I guess they will make the majority of their moves during the off season
Calgary Flames:
Added: C Curtis Lazar; D Mike Kostka (Ottawa)
Lost: D Jyrki Jokipakka, 2017 second-round pick
- I really like this deal for the Flames. Lazar never really fit in with Ottawa, and now he get's a second chance with Calgary. This could eventually turn out to be the steal of the deadline.
Carolina Hurricanes:
Added: 2017 third-round pick (Ottawa)
Lost: LW Viktor Stalberg
- Nothing special here. Just a team that is not making the playoff, unloading a bottom 9 forward
Chicago Blackhawks:
Added: LW Tomas Jurco (Detroit), D Johnny Oduya (Dallas)
Lost: 2017 third-round pick, RW Mark McNeill; 2018 conditional fourth-round pick
_Jurco is a fringe player, but adding Oduya will add much needed depth to the Hawks blueline. A great move by them.
Colorado Avalanche:
Added: 2018 conditional fourth-round pick (Los Angeles) RW Sven Andrighetto (Montreal)
Lost: Jarome Iginla, RW Andreas Martinsen
-Many thought that the Av's would unload their big players (Duchene, Landeskog) during the deadline, but that didn't occur. Expect those deals to occur during the offseason
Columbus Blue Jackets:
Added:D Kyle Quincey (New Jersey). LW Lauri Korpikoski (Dallas)
Lost: Dalton Prout, D Dillon Heaterhington
-The Jackets added some depth players, and I really like the trade for Korpikoski.
Dallas Stars:
Added: 2017 conditional second-round pick, (Anaheim) D Greg Pateryn; 2017 fourth-round pick (Montreal), RW Mark McNeill; 2018 conditional fourth-round pick (Chicago), D Dillon Heaterhington (Columbus)
Lost: RW Patrick Eaves, D Jordie Benn, D Johnny Oduya, LW Lauri Korpikoski
- The Stars unloaded alot of talent, for future picks and prospects. The fire sale has begun!
Detroit Red Wings;
Added: 2017 third-round pick (Chicago), 2017 third-round pick; 2018 second-round pick (New York Rangers), 2018 sixth-round pick (Montreal), D Dylan McIrath; 2017 third-round pick (Florida)
Lost: LW Tomas Jurco, D Brendan Smith, C Steve Ott. LW Thomas Vanek
- Holy draft picks Batman!! Could the Red Wings work their late draft round magic again?
Edmonton Oilers:
Added: C David Desharnais (Montreal)
Lost: D Brandon Davidson
- A small move, but a good one. The Oilers added a solid 3rd line center, without giving up much in return.
Florida Panthers:
Added: LW Thomas Vanek (Detroit)
Lost: D Dylan McIrath; 2017 third-round pick
- This could turn out to be one of the best move during the week. It all depends if Vanek can come through in the playoffs.
Los Angeles Kings:
Added: G Ben Bishop; 2017 fifth-round pick (Tampa Bay), 2018 conditional fourth-round pick (Montreal)
Lost: G Peter Budaj; D Erik Cernak; 2017 seventh-round pick; 2017 conditional pick, LW Dwight King
- Perplexing moves by the Kings, and I am not sure that it will work out for them.
Minnesota Wild:
Added: C Martin Hanzal; RW Ryan White; 2017 fourth-round pick (Arizona)
Lost: 2017 first-round pick; 2018 second-round pick; 2019 conditional pick; C Grayson Downing
- The Wild got the player they wanted, but it came at a hefty price. Does this put them over the edge, and Cup contenders?
Montreal Canadiens:
Added: D Jordie Benn (Dallas), D Brandon Davidson (Edmonton) C Steve Ott (Detroit), LW Dwight King (Los Angeles) RW Andreas Martinsen (Colorado)
Lost: D Greg Pateryn; 2017 fourth-round pick, C David Desharnais, 2018 sixth-round pick, 2018 conditional fourth-round pick, RW Sven Andrighetto
- I guess Bergevin likes to save his big moves for the off season. The Habs definitely got bigger, and they do now have a rough and tough 4th line.
Nashville Predators:
Added: RW P.A. Parenteau (New Jersey)
Lost: 2017 sixth-round pick
- The Predators now have 3 solid lines, that can score and produce. A solid move on their part.
New Jersey Devils;
Added: 2017 sixth-round pick (Nashville), D Dalton Prout
Lost: RW P.A. Parenteau, D Kyle Quincey
-Nothing special here.....
New York Islanders:
-No traded for the Islanders. I guess management is happy with the team they have.
New York Rangers:
Added: D Brendan Smith (Detroit)
Lost: 2017 third-round pick; 2018 second-round pick
- In my mind, the worst trade of the deadline. The Rangers once again gave up high draft picks, for veterans. Eventually this will catch up to them.
Ottawa Senators:
Added: LW Alexandre Burrows (Vancouver), LW Viktor Stalberg (Carolina), D Jyrki Jokipakka, 2017 second-round pick (Calgary)
Lost: C Jonathan Dahlen, 2017 third-round pick, C Curtis Lazar; D Mike Kostka
-Some questionable move by the Senators, especially signing Burrows long term. They are taking a gamble, and I am not sure it will pay off.
Philadelphia Flyers:
Added: C Valtteri Filppula; 2017 fourth-round pick; 2017 conditional seventh-round pick (Tampa Bay)
Lost: D Mark Streit
-A bizarre move by the Flyers. Filppula cost $5 million to the cap. Bad move on their part.
Pittsburgh Penguins:
Added: D Frank Corrado (Toronto) D Mark Streit (Tampa Bay)
Lost: RW Eric Fehr; D Steve Oleksy; 2017 fourth-round pick, 2018 fourth-round pick
- The Penguins have several injuries on the blueline so these deals make perfect sense.
San Jose Sharks:
Added: RW Jannik Hansen (Vancouver)
Lost: LW Nikolay Goldobin; 2017 conditional fourth-round pick
St.Louis Blues:
Added: 2017 first-round pick; 2019 conditional second-round pick; LW Zach Sanford; LW Brad Malone (Washington)
Lost: D Kevin Shattenkirk; G Pheonix Copley
- Great move by the blue to stock pile on draft picks. This is a future move, and one that could work out well for them
Tampa Bay Lightning:
Added: G Peter Budaj; D Erik Cernak; 2017 seventh-round pick; 2017 conditional pick (Los Angeles), D Mark Streit (Pittsburg), C Byron Froese; 2017 second-round pick (Toronto)
Lost: G Ben Bishop; 2017 fifth-round pick,C Valtteri Filppula; 2017 fourth-round pick; 2017 conditional seventh-round pick, 2018 fourth-round pick, C Brian Boyle
-These moves were all about cap space, so they can re-sign players like Palat. Smart moves, by a smart GM.
Toronto Maple Leafs;
Added: C Brian Boyle (Tampa Bay), RW Eric Fehr; D Steve Oleksy; 2017 fourth-round pick (Pittsburgh)
Lost: C Byron Froese; 2017 second-round pick,D Frank Corrado
- Toronto got experience in Fehr and Boyle, and that will play a HUGE part of their playoff success.
Vancouver Canucks:
Added: C Jonathan Dahlen (Ottawa), LW Nikolay Goldobin; 2017 conditional fourth-round pick (San Jose)
Lost: LW Alexandre Burrows, RW Jannik Hansen
- The Canucks were able to load up on young talent, without giving much in return. Dahlen could turn out to be a big steal by the Canucks.
Washington Capitals:
Added: D Kevin Shattenkirk; G Pheonix Copley (St.Louis)
Lost: 2017 first-round pick; 2019 conditional second-round pick; LW Zach Sanford; LW Brad Malone
- The biggest trade of the deadline. Capitals are taking a big gamble, and going all in. It will be interesting to see if it pays off.
Winnipeg Jets:
Added: 2017 conditional sixth-round pick (Boston)
Lost: RW Drew Stafford
-That's it? I thought the Jets would be more active. I guess they are happy with the lineup they have.
So they you have it, another trade dealine has passed us by. Much like last year, there were no headline move made. We will see in June, who truly comes out winner.
