Welcome to another blog article, where I will be featuring Hockey Heroes of the Past. For now, I will be focusing on player who played between 1900-1970. Why that time period? Well, it is important to remember these pioneer's, that paved the way for current NHL superstars. Without these legends, who knows where our game would be. So I find it is essential that these Hockey Heroes get the recognition they deserve. Today we take a different look We spotlight a person who didn't have a long playing career, but had a impact on the game as a builder, Murray Costello.

Most of Costello' hockey achievements came after retired in 1960.. His greatest accomplishment was as president of the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association (now Hockey Canada) between 1979 and 1998. Among many accomplishments, Costello made significant contributions to the merging of Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey Association, which brought Canada's entire developmental process into one stream. Murray also oversaw the formation of the Canadian women's team and, in turn, the rapid development of women's hockey.
To this date, Murray Costello remains a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation Council, and is chairman of both the IIHF's Medical and Technical/Arena committees. In addition, he is on the Board of Directors of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

People like Murray Costello help make the game stronger. Yes, the players themselves help shape the game, but the builders, the architects, the manager contribute just as much. Costello is a fine example of this.
