It's time once again for the "Weekly Warrior". Today we change things up a bit, and look at a goalie that is coming in to his prime, that being Devan Dubynk of the Minnesota Wild.
Let's look at his stats for the season:
GP: 35
W: 24 * tied for second in the league*
L: 8
SO: 5 *tied for second in the league*
G.AA: 1.88 *first in the league*
SV%: .936 *first in the league*
- Edmonton Oilers, Nashville Predators, Montreal Canadiens, Arizona Coyotes. All teams that Dubynk played for, before establishing himself as top tier goaltender with Minnesota. Now Dubnyk is having a Vezina/Hart Trophy type of season. However, he is not a "one-hit" wonder. Over the past 3 seasons with Minnesota he has 83 wins and 43 losses. Those are pretty impressive numbers, for a goalie once considered a bust.
Just imagine if the Edmonton Oilers had him in net this season! Of course, Dubnyk might not have developed into the player he is now, if he had stayed with the Oilers. Bob Mason, the Minnesota Wild's goalie coach, has done a great job working with "Dubs". Also, Dubynk is thriving under Bruce Boudreau's coaching system. A system that has worked in the past, at least during the regular season.
Even with his recent success, the BIG test for Dubynk will be the playoffs. A place he has only been twice in his NHL career, and where he has not excelled. Until then, it will be interesting to see what his final goalie numbers will be, at the end of the season.
