It is time once again for another "Weekly Warrior". This week we spotlight the rising star from the Boston Bruins, David Pastrnak. He is only 20 years old, but has become one of the top snipers in the NHL. Let's have a look at his statistics for this year. (as of December 14th)
GP = 25
G = 18
A = 6
Pts = 24
Plus/Minus = 15
EV (even strength goals) = 14 ***tops in the NHL***
ATOI = 17:05
S% (shooting percentage) = 21.4
Collectively, those are some of the best numbers in the NHL. The amount of even strength goals he has is extremely impressive, even more so that the Bruins are a team that does not score alot of goals. The Bruins have 71 goals this season, 18 of those by Pastrnak. So that means he is scoring 25% of their goals. That shows how what pivotable part of the teams success he is.
Pastrnak is now in his 3rd NHL season, and although he has had some success the previous two seasons, he is taking his game to another level now. He is simply oozing with confidence, and is truly thriving in the Bruins new system. The Bruins are playing with more speed, and this is playing into Pastrnak game plan. His game is thriving now because he is being allowed to carry the puck into the offensive zone. (rather than the Bruins old "dump and chase" method)
Pastrnak is on pace for a 40 goal season, something that would put him in the elite snipers in the league. If he can stay healthy, there is no reason why he wouldn't be able to obtain this goal. Even if you are not a Bruins fan, you have respect the talent this kid has, and he is equally deserving of this week's "Weekly Warrior".
