Welcome once again to my spotlight blog post entitled "Masked Men". Within these threads I will be talking about various masked men around the league. In essence, a mask is a goalies identity. They can add their own personalities to their mask. A self portrait in a way.
Today we will be spotlighting Devan Dubynk, of the Minnesota Wild. Devan is off to a spectacular start to the season. Let's look at his numbers so far.
W : 8
L: 6
OLT: 1
SO: 4
GAA: 1.55 *Best in the league*
SV% : .948 *Best in the league*
SV (Saves) : 445 * Best in the league*
Now, the Win/Loss record is not that great. However, the rest of those stats are amazing. Those are Carey Price numbers, and Price has a better team in front of him than Dubynk. So you can argue that Dubynk is the best goalie of the season. (so far)
Dubynk began his career with the Edmonton Oilers after being the 14th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.Things never really worked out for him in Edmonton, and after short stints in Nashville and Arizona, he joined the Minnesota Wild during the 2014-15. Since then, he has become the Wild's starting goalie. During that season he won the Bill Masterton trophy. (awarded annually to the NHL player who "best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey) He is also nicknamed "Giraffe" due to his height. (6ft6inches)
Now let's look at his current mask:
Right Side:

Minnesota's NFL team are the "Vikings" and Dubnyk's nick name is "Giraffe". So you end up with a giraffe wearing a Vikings mask. Very comical, but actually very cool.
Front view:

Cool looking logo of Minnesota Wild. I like it.
Left side:

Those are Dubynk's two kids wearing Viking masks. (Nathaniel and Parker) I love this idea!! It's a symbolic way to have your kids with you at all times! Must be very inspirational for Dubynk.
Back:

Nice breast cancer memento for Devan's mom, who survived breast cancer. Also the "NCD 08/12/2013" represents the birthdate of their first son Nathaniel.
You can easily see that family is important to Devan Dubnyk, and he wears it proudly every game night. Let's hope that Devan will continue to have a long and succesful NHL career.
