Masked Men: Stephen Murphy

Welcome once again to my spotlight blog post entitled "Masked Men". Within these threads I will be talking about various masked men around the league. In essence, a mask is a goalies identity. They can add their own personalities to their mask. A self portrait in a way.

Today we will be taking a trip over seas, more specifically to the British Elite League, and look at Stephen Murphy. Who, you might ask is Stephen Murphy? And why I am taking a look at a player outside the NHL? Well, tread below to find out.

First a bit of background on the Stephen. He is 34 years old, and has played with the Belfast Giants for the past 7 years. There is no chance he will ever see any NHL action, but he has an impressive W 195 L 59 T 12 record with Belfast. So as Scottish goalies go, he is probably the best one out there.In 1999, at the age of 17, Murphy became the goaltender for the Great Britain National Team and played on five occasions for them in the World Junior Championships. Very old school, but I like it! Classic 90's mask look.

Ohhh another nice touch. You can't do a Back to the Future mask, without the Delorean. This is one of my favorite masks. It has old school written all over it, and I am always a fan of old school stuff. So you might not ever play an NHL Stephen, but your mask will go down as one of the best.

***Interesting fact**** Murphy represented an Elite League Select side against the Boston Bruins in fall 2011, taking on the then Cup champions in an exhibition game held in Belfast
