It's always sunny in the Sunshine State

For Colton Sceviour and Jon Marchessault, it is sun and fun times in Florida. (and also for those who chose them in their NHL Fantasy drafts) Full of smiles, happiness, and NHL success. However, who are these sudden Sunshine State hockey heroes??? Why the sudden surge? Neither of these players have had success like this before, so what gives? Well, let's explore this subject further.
First the numbers. Between the two players, they have 20 points through 12 games this season. (11 of those being goals) So 92% of the time, either one of them are going to score in a game. Now, that is probably a pace they won't be able to maintain. Those numbers are hit and miss as well. 3 of Sceviours goals came in 1 game, which means he only scored 3 goals in the other 11 games. As well, they are getting lots of ice time. Marchessault is averaging 18:06 ATOI while Sceviour is averaging 15:23 ATOI. Pretty decent numbers for two players that have never averaged more than 12 ATOI during their career. Of course, they are playing on the top 2 lined of the Panthers. Marchessault on the 1st line, while Sceviour is seeing ice time on the 2nd line. So they are playing in big game situations.
Next, let's look at Florida's situation. Nick Bjugstad and Jonathan Huberdeau are currently sidelined with injuries. If those two players were healthy, then Sceviour and Marchessault would be delegated to the 3rd/4th line, and would not put up similar numbers as they are producing now. Nothing against them, it's just they would not have the opportunities that they have now. Hockey can be a very situational game, and this is one situation which is an example of that.
Now you have to give alot of credit to both Sceviour and Marchessault. They were given a chance to shine, and shine they have. I am especially happy for Marchessault. I saw him play for the Quebec Remparts, and saw what he is capable of. Knowing this, it is great to see his current success. I just hope that will continue throughout the season.Nevertheless, for now, the sun is definitely shining on these two sunshine state stars, and that is what matters the most.
